Wildern Waves swimmer Alistair Garmendia secured a Bronze medal in the inaugural Short Course European Masters Championships in Madeira, Portugal!

Wildern Waves swimmer Alistair Garmendia joined  950 swimmers from across Europe at the European Masters Championships in November. The competition was hosted in Madeira.

Alistair took part in 5 events across two days of short course racing alongside multiple Olympians as well as former World and European champions.

On day one, Alistair took part in the 35-39 years 100m Individual Medley (IM) and 800m Freestyle, securing a Bronze medal in the IM and 11th in the 800m.

The medal ranks as one of his highest swimming achievements - being ranked number 3 in Europe isn’t something that happens very often!

On day 2 Alistair secured 9th place in the 200m Freestyle, 5th place in the 50m Breaststroke and 5th place in the 100m Butterfly.

Alistair achieved 3 seasons best times during the meet and to win a European medal is a fantastic achievement and testament to his commitment in training sessions.

It was an enjoyable competition and hopefully something that European Aquatics will seek to replicate in the coming years.
